The situation
Logs are useless without the right time. Point R1 at an NTP source and a syslog collector.
Build this in Packet Tracer
- Drag 1 router → R1, 1 switch → SW1, 1 Server → SRV.
- Connect R1 Gi0/0 → SW1 → SRV; address R1 Gi0/0 192.168.60.1/24 and SRV 192.168.60.10/24.
- On SRV → Services, turn NTP on and note SYSLOG is on by default.
What you will do
- Sync the clock with NTP
- Timestamp the logs
- Send logs to the server
- Why NTP before syslog?question
How it works
The lab opens in your browser: a real terminal or desktop, nothing to install. Work through the tasks, press Check after each one and the portal verifies your work. Stuck? Ask for a hint. Finish every task and you get a certificate page with its own verification link for LinkedIn or your CV.
